I began the day by going to the gym and met with my pals Pete and Charlie we swapped email addresses because they are both leaving Florida next week too. It will be good to keep in touch with them, they are such characters and have really made my time at this gym a good experience.
I went back round to FAU and got in around 9.45 dumped my things in the office and then went to the media department in the main admin building 5 minutes away where I had a meeting at 10 with Gisele, who is one of the main media relations people in FAU. I did a full interview with her, telling her all about the research I have done here, the focus on the policing of gang violence in the post-Ferguson era. She recorded the interview and is going to try and get some media interest in what I have been doing. However, she did mention that the media is completely focused on Trump all the time just now to the exclusion of just about everything else as he has just completed his first 100 days in office. I had already noticed this intense focus – every time I switch on my TV at tea time that is all that is on the news. But hopefully there might be some interest in my research !
I went back to the office and spent the rest of the day today doing final edits on my most recent book chapter for my new book ‘Gangs and Spirituality’ and then read through the other 3 chapters I have written so far. It’s great that I am right on track with it and will be able to complete the other 6 chapters from the time I go home and the end of the year.
I left work just after 5, went back over and had dinner and then went to my yoga class. Today was an unbearably humid day, and it remained like that into the evening. I think I chose to come here at the right time, since the weather is changing now to be much more muggy.
